Marvel Announces 2012 Event: Avengers vs. X-Men

News

A few months ago Marvel rolled out a teaser featuring the Phoenix, the words “It’s Coming”, and a creative team of everybody who’s anybody at Marvel. Today they unveiled a part of it.

Starting in April, time enough for Fearless and Battle Scars to wrap up, Marvel has another bi-weekly series lined up.

Avengers vs. X-Men.

By writers Jason Aaron, Brian Bendis, Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, and Jon Hickman. And artists John Romita Jr., Olivier Coipel, and Adam Kubert. The same oversized creative team from the Phoenix teaser.

The premise?

“What if the Avengers fought the X-Men”

Back in the 90’s Marvel did that, it was called Bloodties, and it followed up Fatal Attractions. The teams fought and teamed up to fight off Exodus. It was quick and to the point.

Nothing these days is quick and to the point. This is a twelve issue bi-weekly series that will probably open up with the Avengers vs Scott’s team of X-Men, so we can see Scott vs Logan again, and then we’ll see the Avengers against Wolverine’s team of X-Men, and I guess winner takes Phoenix?

Phoenix is coming to Earth and it’s apparently after Hope, which is going to lead to the return of “is Hope Jean” that has thankfully died down since Second Coming. Expect the two teams to come to blows over this, especially after the Point One teaser showed the Phoenix eating a planet.

Avengers vs. X-Men kicks off in March with a zero issue by Bendis and Aaron, with art by Frank Cho.
