Wrath of the Ninja Turtles!

News, Projects

Jonathan Liebesman, Wrath of the Titans, is in final negotiations to direct a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie at Paramount.

In case you’ve been hiding in a… well shell for the last thirty years, TMNT began back in the ’80s as a dark black-and-white comic book before transforming into a lovable kids Saturday morning cartoon series and toy line. In 1990, the franchise launch onto the Big Screen the hugely successful first film that grossed $202 million worldwide. It was followed by two two sequels that weren’t nearly as well received. An animated feature film hit theaters in 2007 and now the powers that be are looking at taking the franchise back to live-action.

The story revolves around four turtles who were living in a sewer and dowsed with radiation transforming them into pizza eating, trash talking martial arts fighters, with Splinter, a rat, as there sensei. Taking the names of four legendary Renaissance artists (Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello) they fight the evil Shredder and his Foot Clan.

Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol) have written the new screenplay.

Brett Ratner was also in talks to direct the film and I think it’s safe to say we’re all glad that didn’t happen.

The Pulse: So how about production wishes and dreams on this one? Do you want them to stick to the original films and use guys in costumes or do you want CGI Ninja Turtles in live action landscape? And who would be your dream cast for these four pizza loving turtles in a half shell? For some reason, I think this might be one place Ashton Kutcher might not be so annoying. And will Corey Feldman reprise his role as Donatello?
