Around The World In 80 Ways Episode 8 Preview: “Calcutta Monsoon Festival”

Features, Previews, Top Story

With Around The World In 80 Ways drawing to its close, it’s time to preview tonight’s eighth episode.

The next episode of the season sees Rob and Dennis continue their Indian adventure. While the regular shenanigans are the order of the day, there is more of an emphasis placed on the methods of transportation as they are close to their goal of scaling the globe using 80 different methods.

Some of the vehicles that are employed on tonight’s episode include riding a rickshaw (hmm, I thought we have seen that one before), driving a tractor and moving around in a Tata Nano car. Hosts Boston Rob Mariano and Dennis Anderson also have the opportunity to check out a monsoon festival (yes, apparently those exist) in Calcutta.

With the show winding down, I think we now know that Boston Rob’s main forte is being able to dominate competitive reality programming. While I enjoy the interactions that he has with Dennis and the different methods of transport that are used in every episode of Around The World In 80 Ways, it’s clear that he excels when he has to outwit someone else. That is what he did on Survivor, The Amazing Race and Reality Obsessed and while we see spurts of it on this show… there need to be more. The mini-contests with Dennis were a nice inclusion by Thom Beers and the rest of the producers because they offer momentary glimpses of the Mariano that we have grown accustomed to over the last decade but it would be great to see more instances of it.

I am glad that Around The World In 80 Ways will focus more about the journey aspect of the experience in the final two episodes as well. From an educational perspective, the show really shed light on the different ways to get from one place to another.

Around The World In 80 Ways airs tonight at 10 p.m. on History Television
