It’s so rare in comics these days to see a death not get hyped. Whether it be in the solicits, or in previews or teasers, or even a writer or editor teasing something coming in an interview. Everyone wants so bad to use those moments to boost sales that they sometimes completely forget to leave surprises for their readers.
Well, Rick Remender remedied that in Secret Avengers this week with the apparent death of a character I have a soft spot for.
Last issue Ant Man tagged along with the Adaptoid and the mother and son they kidnapped, and this issue he tries to rescue them. The mother dies saving him, and Ant Man takes the kid and runs. The majority of the issue is him evading the robots in this robocity as he waits for his backup to arrive, and arrive they do…just not in time.
Eric O’Grady was not a nice guy, he was the Irredeemable Ant Man, and while I’m sad to see him go, I’ll be damned if he didn’t look awesome on his way out.
