Robert Pattinson, unlike his two Twilight co-stars, has shown that he has talent. Now I may have hated having the rug pull out from me with the ending of Remember Me, but that wasn’t on account of Pattinson’s character or acting. And he proved with Water for Elephants that was deserving of sharing the screen with the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Chistoph Waltz.
However, his new film Cosmoplis is a big departure for the young actor. He’s working with David Cronenberg who had a slight departure in material with last year’s A Dangerous Method. But his adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel looks to be a return of the Cronenberg that gave us The Fly, eXistenZ, and A History of Violence.
In the brief 30 second teaser, Pattinson brandishes a gun, takes a woman from behind in the back of a limo and peers over a balcony at a dance club. All this and more (is that a giant rat walking in Times Square?)!
The film, which also stars Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton and Jay Baruchel, will open in France on May 23rd. An American release date has yet to be announced.
Synopsis: Cosmopolis is the story of Eric Packer (Pattinson), a 28 year old multi-billionaire asset manager who makes an odyssey across midtown Manhattan in order to get a haircut. The story takes place over the course of a single day and involves Packer having to overcome a number of obstacles, including traffic congestion, riot. He is also being targeted by two men.
