More than ever, the international box office has proven to be a powerful force when determining a U.S. film’s success. Yet, even more surprising is how well a film does overseas before making it to America. The Intouchables looks to be one such picture. To be released theatrically by The Weinstein Company on May 25, the heart-warming film has already earned $281 million internationally.
The film is based on a true story about an aristocratic Frenchman (Tell No One‘s François Cluzet) left a quadriplegic after a paragliding accident. Once a successful businessman, he becomes a social leader and tragic figure with the help of an Algerian caregiver (Micmacs‘ Omar Sy).
