The possibilities made any MMA’s fan go wild with speculation. While it has been rumored (but never confirmed) that B.J Penn had been offered (and turned down) a fight with Gilbert Melendez the odds-on favorite to get the fight had been Josh Thompson. After an unimpressive victory over KJ Noons, many thought that someone else should take his place.
Gray Maynard was heavily rumored at one point to be coming over to test Melendez.
But alas Melendez/Thomson III has been anounced for the May 19th Strikeforce card, headlined by the conclusion of the Heavyweight Grand Prix featuring Daniel Cormier vs. Josh Barnett.
