While promoting last night’s WWE SmackDown TV taping for Friday 5/4/12, former WWE Intercontinental champion Cody Rhodes told the Toledo Free Press that top star John Cena had a significant influence on how he’s developed his persona and marketing his “tormented” character.
Says Rhodes, “I spent a year driving Cena around when I was on the Raw brand … The goal was to learn a lot about him, what he does in the ring, how he has gotten where he has gotten, but also to learn a lot about merchandising and marketing, pretty much all the things he does. And I’d say I learned a great deal on what it takes outside of the ring.”
CB’s Slant: OK, so *maybe* Rhodes didn’t actually carry Cena’s bags, but the payoff for driving around John Cena is certainly two-fold: 1. Getting in a top star’s good graces is always good for business; and 2. Rhodes must’ve learned a lot considering the craziness of Cena’s schedule over the course of one year. Must’ve been a wild ride to say the least.
