For the crime of killing a fellow Green Lantern, John Stewart has been sentenced to…you know what? Let’s get back to that.
A few issues ago John snapped the neck of another Green Lantern. The context of this was that several Lanterns were left behind in hostile territory, captured, and tortured for information. All but one Lantern managed to hold out and keep their mouth shut as the interrogators try and get the codes to teleport them to Oa. One Lantern caves under the pressure and wants to spill everything, literally open a door back to homebase for them to go in and slaughter. John breaks his neck, kills him, the captors never get to Oa.
The Alpha Lanterns are in full control over enforcing laws for the Corps now, for some reason. The Guardians have no say so, there is no jury of their peers, just the Alphas and their ruling. They take footage, origin unknown, and can show that John killed the Lantern. They disregard his case about why because that mysterious footage doesn’t contain any of it, and brand him a murderer.
His sentence? Death.
Expect Guy Gardner to raise hell.
