Justin Jordan & Dan DiDio Deepen Team Seven Roster Mystery (DC Comics New 52: Third Wave)

News, Top Story

Well, our Team Seven week continues here at the Comics Nexus. :) As you know by now, writer Justin Jordan and penciller Jesús Merino will be chronicling the tales of DC New 52’s “infamous” Team Seven.

Team Seven #0 is one of four new series that are part of DC’s first anniversary plans of the New 52. The Team Seven #0 solicit reads as follows:

Team Seven #0: Set in the early days of DC Comics-The New 52, threads of the entire DC Universe collide. As Superman emerges, so does the world’s counter measures against him and his kind. Comprised of Dinah Lance, Amanda Waller, Steve Trevor, John Lynch, Alex Fairchild, Cole Cash, Slade Wilson are Team 7—and their story will change everything you know about DC Comics-The New 52. (Written by Justin Jordan and art by Jesús Merino)

Based on that solicit, and the presumed cover to the right, I had assumed an ethncity change for a Wildstorm stalwart after the solicit names and the cover were mapped (see lower left).

In response to that story, DC Co-publisher Dan DiDio indicated on Facebook that:

The New Team 7 book is a mix of new, DCU and former Wildstorm characters.

In addition, my Demythify column this week covered all the Team Seven teases so far in Justice League and other spots over the last several months and mapped out DC’s likely secret history from Team Seven to Justice League to Seven Soldiers (?).

In response to that piece, writer Justin Jordan on Facebook dropped an interesting nugget of info that leads to DiDio’s comment making more sense, but raises an intriguing dissonance between the Team Seven #0 solicit and the cover released.

What I can tell you is that not all of the characters mentioned are in that promo image, and not all the people in the promo image have been mentioned, yet.

Wow. That was unexpected.

So, it would appear that one or both of those two characters on the upper right of the Team Seven #0 cover, that do not clearly map to characters revealed in the New 52 so far, may be net new character(s).

In addition, Jordan’s comment may lend some credibility to the rumors that the covers released so far are promo pieces (in fact some websites are calling them that) with the actual covers to be revealed closer to September.

Fun times ahead!
