TORONTO – The MuchMusic Video Awards are overwhelming.

Next to the Toronto International International Film Festival, the MMVAs are the time when the most celebrities flock to the city and descend in the same place for one night only to celebrate Canadian music. As I said before, they are more of an experience than an event and this year was no exception.

What I liked most about this year’s presentation was the fact that MuchMusic brought both A-list artists to the show as well as top-notch actors as well. Justin Bieber walked the same red carpet that Glee‘s Chord Overstreet did and this highlighted that the show wasn’t just about the music but now is a can’t-miss event.

Here’s what I liked about the behind-the-scenes aspects of the 2012 MMVAs:

– The multiple press opportunities. Bell Media is becoming synonymous with providing ample opportunities with the talent that they bring in for their shindigs and if you miss a celebrity on the red carpet, the chances are you will probably get a chance to talk to them at the press conferences that take place during the show. This is similar to what they did at the Upfronts

– The fact that the red carpet was covered. When rumors started to swirl that it would rain on Sunday, I thought that this spelled disaster for the red carpet. Turns out, there was no need for concern. The area had been completely tented off in advance allowing my red suit to be displayed in all its glory.

– Easy access to get outside.

– The ability to file from multiple stations inside.

There are many things that I will remember about this year’s event, but primarily it will be Shenae Grimes finding me on the red carpet and the result being one of the best interviews that I have ever done. I will also remember trying my hardest to interview Carly Rae Jepsen.

All in all, the MurtzMurtzic Video Awards were an incredible experience as they always are.
