NYCC 2012: Coulson Lives In Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Show!

News

When Agent Phil Coulson died in the Avengers movie, fans were upset. He was a strong character, created for the filmverse, and one who had just been introduced into the comics not a month before his big screen death at the hands of Loki. Even more shocking since the actor, Clark Gregg, has been known to do the media rounds to conventions and the like.

In other words, despite the character being dead, him showing up at NYCC wasn’t too big of a surprise. However, what he revealed while there, during a panel with Jeph Loeb talking about Marvel on TV, that’s the news.

Marvel has a new live action TV show in the works about S.H.I.E.L.D., and Joss Whedon is having a hand in it. While casting hadn’t been announced, we did know to expect a fully original cast unique to the show. And now? Now we have our star.

Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson.

But wait! He’s dead! Does this mean the show is taking place before the movie? A S.H.I.E.L.D. prequel?

“Have you heard of a Life Model Decoy?” is a question he asked the fans in attendance before rattling off more possibilities that fans have cooked up. From Coulson is the Vision to the edits in the UK version of the dvd.

Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige appeared on screen to confirm it. Agent Coulson is the lead in this show. I guess we’ll find out how it happens when it starts.
