CB’s World: Let’s Give Them Nothing to Talk About (WWE, Kane, Daniel Bryan, John Cena, AJ Lee, CM Punk)

Columns, Top Story

I am going to put as much effort into this column as WWE has been putting into Monday Night Raw and SmackDown lately:

……….

………

You get my point. There’s just nothing interesting or engaging going on in WWE right now, and yes, that includes this “Shield” nonsense.

I don’t care how many people tell me that Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are great and that I should just give them a chance because to me this storyline is an awful retread of something that happened just two years ago, regardless of The Shield’s claims that they aren’t the Nexus.

In fact, that reminds me of the scene in Coming to America where McDowell’s and McDonald’s are being compared, and, well, there really was no difference between the two. (Sidenote: If you want to see something truly entertaining, funny and worth your time, check out these hilarious fake Yelp reviews of McDowell’s Restaurant.)

My point is that there is just nothing compelling to watch right now. Even Kane and Daniel Bryan’s act — which I loved when it was fresh and new and unpredictable — is becoming a stale caricature of its originally fun dynamic. And it’s not because of anything they are doing wrong, but rather the lack of progress in their story.

I also have no interest in the AJ Lee and John Cena saga, and again it’s not their fault for having a time-wasting TMZ-like storyline that is horribly crafted and totally the opposite of what wrestling fans want to see. Sorry Vince, you didn’t take the right pulse on this one.

Lastly, and this is the saddest part, even CM Punk’s legitimately historic title reign is becoming muddled by bad booking. The Shield’s interferences during the main events of both Hell In A Cell and Survivor Series really have taken some bite out of Punk’s run, and as impressed as I am by this accomplishment, I’m also a little disengaged from caring about anything that happens on television and on PPV until The Rock returns and the build to the Royal Rumble starts.

Why? Because I know we’re just going to get more of the same from right now through to the end of the year.

And if WWE is looking for a new motto for the rest of 2012, it might as well be ripped right from the subject line of this column: Let’s give them nothing to talk about<... ...because that's exactly what we're getting. Before I sign off this week, I did want to give a shout-out to TNA wrestler Christian York for having two pretty solid matches vs. Jeff Hardy and Bobby Roode, separately, over the past two weeks on otherwise atrocious episodes of Impact Wrestling. I just thought a shout-out was called for because York seems to be working hard down in Orlando and he probably is making peanuts for his efforts. You can check out the two matches below: Christian York vs. Jeff Hardy (Full Match):
