Matt Damon Joins The Cast Of George Clooney’s The Monuments Men

Casting News, News

When George Clooney got the ball rolling on his latest directorial effort, The Monuments Men, he rounded up a very talented ensemble that included Daniel Craig, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, recent Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin (The Artist), and John Goodman among others.

Now Deadline is reporting that Matt Damon is negotiating to join the impressive ensemble. The addition will see Damon and Clooney working together for the first time since doing the Ocean’s Eleven movies and Syriana.

The period drama, co-written by Clooney and his writing partner Grant Heslov, will lens this January and is a co-production between Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox.

The story “confronts the final chapter of Germany’s rule, which came down to the absolute destruction of everything that makes a culture keep its standing, including the lives that are lost and the sacrifices that are made. All of this is in danger of being lost forever as Hitler and the Nazis try to cover the tracks of a murderous regime. A crew of art historians and museum curators unite to recover renown works of art that were stolen by Nazis before they are destroyed.”

Matt Damon will next be seen in Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land, a film he wrote with co-star John Krasinski, from a story by David Eggers.
