Disc News: MADtv Gets Second Season Release

News

MADtv dared to rival Saturday Night Live for late night weekend comedy viewers. While it was canceled a few years ago, MADtv was a major success compared to so many shows that barely lasted a season. MADtv lasted 14 seasons and launched the careers of numerous notable performers including Michael McDonald, Bobby Lee, Nicole Sullivan, Will Sasso, Orlando Jones, Artie Lang and Alex Borstein. This is where Key and Peele launched before arriving as a duo act on Comedy Central. Yet when it came to video, only the first season was released complete way back in 2004. There were single DVD compilations that covered three seasons per disc. Shout! Factory is heading back in the vault to release MADtv: The Complete Second Season on March 26, 2013. Here’s the press release from Shout! Factory:

Los Angeles, CA – Shout! Factory has announced the March 26 release of MADtv Season 2! The 4-Disc set includes all 22 episodes of the beloved Warner Bros. television series. Join special guest hosts Christina Applegate, Ice-T, Harry Connick, Jr., Rodney Dangerfield, Queen Latifah, LL Cool J and many more as they usher in some of the most entertaining sketches from fan-favorite cast members like Nicole Sullivan, Orlando Jones, Phil LaMarr, Brian Callen, Debra Wilson, Mary Scheer and Artie Lange!

The hyperactive UBS Man, Antonia Timmens, the Vancome Lady, Dixie Wetsworth and Spy vs. Spy… All of your favorite characters and sketches from the second hilarious season of MADtv are here! From pop culture parodies to political satire, nothing is off limits for this outrageous cast.

Primetime Emmy®-winning series MADtv was one of the top rated late-night comedy staples in the 1990s and ran on Fox for fourteen seasons. This fast-paced and irreverent sketch comedy series is well-known for its outrageous movie and television parodies, cutting political satires, hysterical commercial and music video spoofs, biting social commentary and pop culture send-ups. The ensemble cast has created an impressive array of popular characters such as Michael McDonald’s man-child Stuart and Marvin Tikvah; Mo Collins’ Lorraine and Trina; Aries Spears’ Belma Buttons and Dollar Bill; Debra Wilson’ Bunifa and Cocoa Latette; Bobby Lee’s Connie Chung and Kim Jong-il; Phil LaMarr’s Jaq the UBS guy and Desperation Lee; and Will Sasso’s accident prone handyman Paul Timberman and Michael McCloud. MADtv is a production of QDE. The executive producers are David E. Salzman, Quincy Jones, and Dick Blasucci, who joined the team with Season 4.
