J.J. Abrams To Direct Star Wars VII

Let the Star Trek/Star Wars jokes commence!

The Wrap is reporting that J.J. Abrams is going to direct Star Wars VII. After initially saying he had no interest in the project, one can only assume that Disney threw enough money and/or creative control his way to get him to agree.

With Star Trek Into Darkness getting ready to hit theaters it seems Abrams is ready to jump ship from the U.S.S. Enterprise and Force jump on board a Star Destroyer.

Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) is already hard at work on a script, but I’m sure that now Abrams is on board the two are going to be having lots of discussions of where this new trilogy should and could go.

I, for one, couldn’t be more excited. I am a mild Trek fan at best, but his take on the characters was the best film in the series in a long time and Into Darkness is looking like it will certainly live up to it’s predecessor. With those two films and Super 8 as well as everything else he’s done, Abrams has more than proven he us up to the task of bring the Star Wars universe back to the Big Screen once again.

With this big questions answered, it leaves fan and fanboys to continue to speculate on what the story might be and if any of our favorite characters and/or actors will be returning as well.

Personally, while I think it would be fun to Han Solo back in action, we all know how terrible Crystal Skull was. Now, I don’t blame Harrison for that (I’m looking at you Lucas!), but he wasn’t good enough to help. What I would like to see from Harrison or any other of the original cast is a Hugh Jackman type cameo role as seen in X-Men: First Class.

Either way, with every bit of news that is coming out about SWVII the odds of it sucking prequel style seem to be getting less and less and this makes me very, very happy.
