Vitor Belfort approved for TRT at UFC On FX 7

News

After news broke of Thiago Tavares failing his drug test at January’s UFC On FX 7 event, the name most speculated to have failed a drug test at the event, Vitor Belfort, seemed to be in the clear.

However, UFC officials announced in a statement that Belfort had been medically approved for testosterone replacement therapy, known in fight circles as TRT. His drug test results came back negative which indicated he did not have the presence of any perfomance enhancing drugs in his system.

Belfort joins the list of fighters whose names have come public as being under a TRT exemption, a list that has included Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen, Frank Mir and Forrest Griffin at times. Belfort defeated Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC On FX 7. Coincidentally, Bisping has suffered four losses since 2007, three of which have come to fighters with a TRT exemption- Belfort, Sonnen and Henderson.
