During early previews for the new Uncanny X-Men series, and in the solicits for upcoming issues, one thing was made clear. There is a traitor on the team, but who it was, or how exactly they were a traitor, were left a mystery. Bendis wasted no time once the book actually began with setting this plot up, as the traitor sought out SHIELD.
Now, at this point we see it’s a bald white man, which means our list of suspects is narrowed down to two. Magneto and Cyclops. What’s interesting, however, is that Maria Hill has no real idea just how many new mutants are appearing, or that the public is in love with Cyclops. She doesn’t agree as much, but she does find the knowledge of the broken powers of those touched by the Phoenix to be worth noting.
She also likes hearing his idea for how to bring Scott down. But why would he want to do that?
Because Scott killed Professor X, and ideologies be damned, he was Magneto’s best friend. Also, Erik has a tremendous ego and Cyclops used the Phoenix to neuter his abilities. Pretty fair reason, if you ask me.
