How can you lose your job with the UFC after a fairly dominant (if boring) victory? By flunking a drug test … again. That’s what Matthew “Deep Waters” Riddle did according to MMA Fighting.
Riddle, who has spent his entire professional career in Zuffa following a stint on “The Ultimate Fighter,” tested positive for Marijuana again. Riddle previously tested positive after UFC 149, having his submission victory over Chris Clements changed to a no-contest after that positive result. His win over Che Mills has been overturned and made a no-contest as well.
Kubryk’s Take: The UFC has taken a pretty bold step to release Riddle, who has a Nevada doctor’s script to use medical Marijuana. It might not be the worst thing in the world for him, though. Anyone who’s been in the UFC, especially as long as Riddle has, is only a handful of good wins away from being back within the company. If Riddle can get a couple wins, pass a couple of post-fight medical tests and generally be a good citizen he should be back in the company sooner than later. His release is a sign that Zuffa is through giving guys who don’t have a whole lot of leverage any significant leeway when it comes to incidents like this.
