Kick-Ass 2 Red Band Trailer

Media, Trailers

Four years ago Kick-Ass hit theaters and it helped to redefine what “kick-ass” is all about. Starring Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson and Chloe Mortez, the film would be a minor success for studio Lionsgate. The sequel, distributed by Universal, may not be directed by Matthew Vaughn (who serves in a producing capacity), but it looks to bring back the same irreverent action and humor that made the first film so much fun. Both Aaron Johnson and Chloe Mortez return as vigilante heroes Kick-Ass and Hit Girl, and this dynamic duo continues to see their group grow into a vigilante squad with the likes of Colonel Stars and Stripes (played by Jim Carrey) and more.

This time around the amateur superheroes are hunted down by the villainous Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) who assumes the identity “The Mother Fucker” after Kick-Ass killed his father at the conclusion of Kick-Ass. Okay, if that name for Mintz-Plasse’s character isn’t enough to get a smirk or chuckle out of you, then I guess the immaturity of Kick-Ass 2 isn’t for you.

If it is, check out the first red band trailer of Kick-Ass 2, originally from MTV.

Kick-Ass 2, based on the comic “Kick-Ass 2 and Hit Girl” created by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., is directed by Jeff Wadlow, of Never Back Down and Cry Wolf previously. In addition to Johnson, Moretz, Carrey and Mintz-Plasse, the sequel also stars Clark Duke, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, and Morris Chestnut. Universal plans to release the sequel on August 16th.
