Tense First Trailer For Paul Greengrass’ Captain Phillips With Tom Hanks At The Helm

Media, News, Trailers

Paul Greengrass is a director most known for his contributions to Matt Damon’s Bourne series (having helmed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum), but he also gave us the Oscar-nominated United 93.

While there was some movement on his dream project Memphis at Universal, those talks broke down and he decided that for his next effort he would board Captain Phillips over at Sony Pictures. From the opening moments this trailer just hooks you in ever so slightly before turning up the gears tenfold.

With Tom Hanks taking the titular role, Greengrass’ Based on a True Story tale focuses on the exploits of a captain who made headlines in 2009 when he gave himself up to Somali pirates in exchange for the safety of his crew after his boat was attacked.

Hanks, who was the toast of Hollywood in the ’90s with back to back Oscar wins for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, looks like he’s wanting to don another tux and acceptance speech. Much like Denzel Washington’s performance in Flight last year, when Hanks is on he’s on. Sadly, he hasn’t been that way for several years now. Luckily, this year he’s got this film and Saving Mr. Banks, a film where he plays some guy named Walt Disney.
