XFC Lightweight Champion Nick Newell Not Defending Title, Words From XFC President John Prisco

News

Nick Newell has been in the MMA media’s viewpoint for two things: his abilities as one of the best prospects in the lightweight division and the fact that he’s been doing it with one and a half arms. Born with a congenital defect where he’s missing one of his arms from the elbow down, Newell has looked spectacular in dismantling opponents despite his handicap. So it’s interesting news that Newell has opted to refuse to defend his title against Scott Holtzman.

XFC president John Prisco gave an interview to the XFC website: you can read it right here.

The gist is that Newell wanted more money for the fight and even when the XFC complied he still turned down the fight. Holtzman will still compete for the lightweight championship on the June 14 event, still, but just against a different opponent that has yet to be determined.
