Trio of Title Fights Announced – Cain Velasquez, Jon Jones, GSP Get Matchups Announced For PPV

News

Today was a fairly busy day for the UFC as heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre all had matchups announced by the UFC.

Velasquez will be taking on Junior Dos Santos in a trilogy fight at UFC 166 in Houston, TX. Velasquez is coming off a first round dismantling of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and JDS off a third round wheel-kick knockout of Mark Hunt. JDS won the first fight of their trilogy on the inaugural UFC on FOX event via knockout less than two minutes into the first round and Velasquez won a gritty 25 minute decision at UFC 155.

Jones will be facing Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson at UFC 165. With a win Jones will pass Tito Ortiz on the all-time list for title defenses in the LHW division with six. Gustafsson is coming off a decision win over Shogun Rua at UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Diaz in December 2012; he had been slated to face Gegard Mousasi in Sweden on a FUEL TV card but pulled out the week of the fight with a cut.

GSP will be facing Johny Hendricks in November in Las Vegas and a to be determined PPV event. GSP is coming off a title defense over Nick Diaz at UFC 158. On that same card Hendricks beat Carlos Condit by decision.
