Ring of Honor “matchmaker” Nigel McGuinness announced that current ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe has been stripped of the ROH World Championship since the Briscoes have departed the company. Storyline-wise, the injuries the Briscoes obtained at the hands of S.C.U.M. will keep them out of action for more than a month forcing ROH to strip Jay Briscoe of the World Championship.
McGuinness announced a tournament for September to crown a new champion. Michael Elgin is the first man announced for the tournament as he was the number one contender before the Briscoes’ weren’t resigned. The returning Brian Kendrick was the second participant announced.
