Jeremy Stephens vs. Rony Jason targeted for UFC Fight Night 29

News

A featherweight bout has been added to October’s UFC Fight Night 29 fight card. Jeremy Stephens (21-9, 8-8 UFC) will meet Rony Jason (13-3, 3-0 UFC) at the event, which has yet to be formally announced by the promotion. It is expected to take place on Oct. 9 in Brazil.

MMAWeekly.com first reported the fight, and Stephens later confirmed plans for him to fight in Brazil.

Stephens will be fighting for the second time since dropping down to the UFC’s featherweight division. He debuted with a unanimous decision win over Estevan Payan at UFC 160 in May. It ended a three-fight losing streak that Stephens had been in the midst of at 155 pounds, though those three losses came to Yves Edwards, Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis, and during a time when he was dealing with legal troubles.

Jason is riding a wave of momentum coming off of his win on the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil”. He defeated Godofredo Pepey by decision at UFC 147 to win the tournament, and has since scored two straight stoppage wins over Sam Sicilia and Mike Wilkinson to solidify his position in the UFC’s stacked featherweight division. Overall, Jason has won eight straight fights.

UFC Fight Night 29 is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 on Oct. 9. Further details for the fight card, including official confirmation and additional fights, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
