DVD Review: Nickelodeon – Let’s Learn Colors

DVD Reviews, Reviews

Preschoolers really need to get their colors down before arriving in kindergarten. A child must master at least the normal box of crayons. Else you end up the type of adults that mistakes red for green at major intersections. So any kid programming that focuses on colors is very important. Nickelodeon’s Let’s Learn Colors is a compilation of Nick Jr. programs that had hue focused episodes. Bubble Guppies‘ “The Crayon Grand Prix!” focuses on a road race that involves coloring the track as they zip around. Dora the Explorer‘s “Quack! Quack!” sends Dora and Boots the monkey into a magical coloring book. They must rescue Mami Duck’s duckling. Team Umizoomi‘s “Kite Festival” is the first episode of the series. The trio must locate a missing kite which leads to quite a few mentions of colors. Blue’s Clues‘ “Colors Everywhere” lives up to its title. Blue wants to paint a picture of all his friends using a variety of colors. This is from the Steve era. Wonder Pets! “Save the Moose in the Caboose” and “Save the Flamingo” are quite as colorful, but there is a lot of pink in the second segment. Let’s Learn Colors is two hours of solid talk about colors aimed right at kids who haven’t memorized the selections at Sherwin-Williams.

Here’s Josie’s comments on the DVD:

The video is 1.33:1 full frame. The video transfer seems to vary by age of the show. Dora the Explorer doesn’t look nearly as good as the Bubble Guppies episode. The audio is Dolby Digital Stereo. Things sound clear enough for your child to understand what a color is called. The episodes are Closed Captioned.

Colors Worksheet is a crayon ready illustration on the inside of the cover.

Nickelodeon’s Let’s Learn Colors is a fun way for kids to reinforce their understanding of hues.

Nickelodeon and Paramount present Nickelodeon’s Let’s Learn Colors. Starring: Dora the Explorer, Boots, Steve and the Bubble Guppies. Boxset Content: 5 episodes on 1 DVD. Released: July 23, 2013.
