While waiting for luggage at LAX, WWE Superstar & PrimeTime Player Darren Young revealed to a TMZ reporter that he is gay.
The reporter started out the conversation by asking Young if he thinks an openly gay man can succeed in the WWE to which Darren responded, “Hey, look at me”. The reporter was sincerely shocked by this turn of events & while Young appeared comfortable with the impromptu interview, it was obvious that this was the first time he’s spoken publicly about his sexuality. Harrak’s Hit: You have to commend Darren Young for so many things just from this interview. Not only did he stay composed and polite through what had to have been a tough conversation but he was also extremely brave to reveal something like this; and to a random member of the paparazzi as well! I applaud Darren Young for his conviction and openness & hope only good things come from this pronouncement.
UPDATE 11:10am – Minutes after this news broke, WWE sent along an official statement:
“WWE is proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality, and we will continue to support him as a WWE Superstar. Today, in fact, Darren will be participating in one of our Be A Star anti-bullying rallies in Los Angeles to teach children how to create positive environments for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation.”
