Lyoto Machida vs. Tim Kennedy announced for UFC Fight For The Troops 3

News

Lyoto Machida (19-4, 11-4 UFC) is officially making the move down to the UFC’s middleweight division. The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion will make his 185-pound debut in November at UFC Fight For The Troops 3 when he takes on military veteran Tim Kennedy (16-4, 1-0 UFC).

UFC President Dana White announced the fight on Wednesday night’s edition of “FOX Sports Live” on FOX Sports 1.

Machida will be looking to bounce back from a controversial unanimous decision loss to Phil Davis at UFC 163 earlier this month. Many had thought Machida won the fight, but Davis had done enough in the mind of the judges to take home the win on the scorecards. It ended Machida’s two-fight win streak and dropped him to just 3-4 over his last seven fights after starting his career with a perfect 16-0 record.

Kennedy will step inside the Octagon for the second time. He transitioned over from the Strikeforce promotion and debuted at UFC 162 in July. He took home a unanimous decision win over Roger Gracie at the event, and Machida was front-and-center for that bout as he was in the corner of Gracie. Kennedy is 4-1 over his last five bouts but unsuccessfully challenged for the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship twice as he lost in title bouts to Ronaldo Souza and Luke Rockhold.

UFC Fight For The Troops 3 will take place on Nov. 6 from Fort Campbell in Kentucky and will air with a main card on FOX Sports 1.
