The Stomping Ground: A Vacation Of Sorts

Columns, Top Story

I absolutely abhor moments like this.

When I first started this gig, I promised myself and everyone reading that I would present you a compelling and interesting column every week without fail. In two-and-a-half years, I’ve kept my word and I’m quite proud of that. I wanted to prove myself as a worthy writer and insightful member of the wrestling audience (apparently the term “IWC” is as antiquated as Hulk Hogan) and I suppose that I did at some point.

Lately, though, I’ve been hit with some form of Writer’s Block. What was once a pleasant part of my week has turned into a chore. I thought that I could fight through it by just posting small blurbs here and there until something more substantial popped into the ol’ brain, but I’ve realized this week that I have been doing you all a disservice in that regard. While it’s true I’m not being paid to write here at the Pulse, you still deserve more than you’ve been getting from me for the past few weeks.

No, I’m not leaving the site.

Think of this as a mini-break.

My job is requiring me to move my services into a new building, which means I must learn to adapt to new policies that will hopefully improve my teaching and therefore my enjoyment of said job. While I make this transition, I need to focus entirely on modifying lesson plans and strategies; something that will take the focus away from writing here at the Pulse. You deserve quality content from yours truly and until I can give that to you, I’ll be taking some time off.

I’ll still be chiming in on Roundtables and discussions in the comments sections on various posts, as well as editing for the site when necessary. Just consider this a vacation of sorts from The Stomping Ground until such time as I can provide you with a good, thought-provoking read. Hell, that might even be next week for all I know, if something I deem worth writing about comes up. Then I could still keep my promise of writing every week.

Know that when I do return, it will be on a regular basis and not a one-off or some sort of semi-retirement. This is just a lapse in good material; nothing more.

I might even bring a friend of ours back into the fold ;)

Quick Thoughts

1. The AJ promo, while mired in truth, was nothing more than a heel Diva spouting jealousy toward her fellow females. It was a work, just like Punk’s, and nowhere near as scathing or awesome as some of you are making it out to be.

2. The teenage version of me would have been pissed that Daniel Bryan is getting his ass kicked every week by the new regime, but the educated adult I am now loves the build-up of this underdog storyline and can’t wait for him to get his revenge.

3. Smackdown is just not very entertaining anymore; hence why I’ve stopped writing reviews about it.

4. CM Punk’s ongoing feud with Paul Heyman is brilliant, except Curtis Axel is just a cog in the machine and should be relegated to an actual one-on-one angle with someone on his level.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Since February of 2011, "The Master of Smarkasm" Mike Gojira has tickled the funny bones of Inside Pulse readers with his insightful comedy, timely wit, and irreverent musings on the world of professional wrestling. Catch his insanely popular column, The Stomping Ground, whenever he feels like posting a new edition (hey, I've earned the right). He is also totally modest and doesn't know the meaning of hyperbole.
