In the age of internet, we get a lot more information online than in traditional media forms. Comic book companies, for example, release their comic book solicitation information in advance of Diamond Distributor’s Previews ordering book being sent to retailers. In the actual Previews for October and November 2013, I was struck by how many titles had the words “Not Final Cover” on the cover art in those months from DC Comics.
With the exception of three of October’s titles – Justice League #24, Justice League Dark #24 and Justice League of America #8 – the other titles were a surprise in both months. Some of these covers are naturally held back due to Trinity War’s explosive ending of Justice League #23 and Forever Evil’s fiery launch in Forever Evil #1. Other covers to come may or may not have anything to do with Forever Evil. We’ll just have to wait and see.
As I was writing up this piece, DC interestingly released their final regular cover for Justice League #24 (new one on the left, original solicit cover on the right). I imagine the Crime Syndicate, Secret Society of Super-Villains and Lex Luthor’s own Justice League will grace some of the other ten of eleven covers yet to be unveiled.
Does the above final cover for Justice League #25 with Forever Evil’s Earth 3 Crime Syndicate remind you of another classic cover? Well, it should.
