Disc Announcements, News

After laying siege to thousands of theater screens this summer, it’s time for Pacific Rim to attack HDTVs. Warner Bros. has sent word to retailers that it plans to release Guillermo Del Toro’s blockbuster as a Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and 2-Disc DVD on October 15th.

Sporting hours of new bonus features, Pacific Rim includes such supplemental material as audio commentary from Oscar nominee Guillermo Del Toro (Writing, Best Original Screenplay, Pan’s Labyrinth), deleted scenes and blooper reel, and a number of featurettes (“The Director’s Notebook,” “Drift Space,” “The Digital Artistry of Pacific Rim,” “The Shatterdome,” and “Focus Points”).

With an interesting assemblage of talent, the film stars Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”, and the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation), Idris Elba (TV’s “Luther”), Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) and Charlie Day (TV’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), along with Rob Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins Jr., Burn Gorman and Rob Perlman.

WB’s official synopsis of Pacific Rim:

In Pacific Rim, legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, have started rising from the sea, beginning a war that takes millions of lives and consumes humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Look for Pacific Rim in stores beginning October 15th.
