Murtz On The Scene: Exclusive Interview With Fik-Shun Stegall & Amy Yakima

Widely regarded to be one of the best seasons of So You Think You Can Dance of all-time, the tenth season of Fox’s hit reality program crowned its newest champions on Tuesday night as Fik-Shun Stegall and Amy Yakima took the title of America’s Favorite Dancers.

The chemistry between Fik-Shun and Amy was undeniable almost as soon as they were initially paired up in the Top 20 portion of the program. Their respective light-up-the-room smiles and spectacular performance ability transcended their fellow competitors almost from the start.

When the competition moved into the All-Star phase of the program, both continued to thrive with Fik-Shun dancing unbelievably well with Witney Carson and tWitch among others and Amy leaving both the live and television audience speechless with her Travis Wall routine.

Really, the major question surrounding the So You Think You Can Dance finale this season was not who would win but rather who would inevitably lose to Fik-Shun and Amy in the finals.

In the end, Fik-Shun being recognized as America’s Favorite Male Dancer and Amy taking home America’s Favorite Female Dancer honors was not as much of a slam-dunk as initially suspected as Aaron Turner and Jasmine Harper certainly gave the pair a run for their money.

I had the chance to catch with Fik-Shun and Amy on the post-finale red carpet and we chatted about a variety of topics including whether America preferred shorter dancers to taller ones, the chemistry that they shared during their partnership, and if there was a singular moment when they knew they were the pair to beat. I also asked them to teach me a dance move and they combined it with their celebration happy dance. To say that I was not at their level would be an understatement. Check out the video above!
