Red Jazz Redemption

G1 Sideswipe was a red Lamborghini car, one of the coolest alternate modes ever for ANYTHING. For its Fall of Cybertron incarnation,  Sideswipe took a wrong turn, and it ended up as a remold of Fall of Cybertron Jazz, universally known to have one of the dumbest alternate modes EVER.

However, not all hope is lost. Sideswipe is actually an extensive retool of the FoC Jazz mold, and it manages to change enough parts to be interesting on its own. Actually, the sleeker design and the red and silver colors make FoC Sideswipe stand out much more than poor, boring Jazz. Definitely an improvement. However, problems like Jazz’ rear section come back with a vengeance. Ditto for the fake transformation, and “anklewheels” are here to stay unfortunately.

‘Swipe matters

Luckily, Sideswipe’s robot mode also benefits from retooling, slightly improving the mold’s appearance and making it come to life properly, in neat contrast with the plainness of Jazz’ color scheme.

As an additional bonus, Sideswipe comes with a huge, heavy weapon, easily 10 times or more the size of Jazz’ peashooter. It can be held with two hands by Sideswipe, and looks good mounted on top of its alt mode.

Red is the new “pass”

Fall of Cybertron Sideswipe is an acceptable toy, improving the mediocre FoC Jazz under all aspects. The retooling and the addition of a big, gun gun make wonders for the appeal of this mold. However, this is still a mediocre design for any modern TF: while Sideswipe got the most of this mold, it would be wise to bury it.
