DVD Review: Bubble Guppies & Team Umizoomi: Into the Snow We Go!

DVD Reviews, Reviews

When you’re a little kid, the holidays are extremely magical. Why more magical than when you turn into an adult? Because little kids don’t get credit card bills in January. Little kids get to enjoy all the seasonal decorations without figuring out where they were stored last year, putting them up, taking them down and putting them into a storage space that will be forgotten in two weeks. They can marvel at snow falling without considering how their backs will feel after they shovel the driveway. After a day of bounding around in the frozen fun, they’re ready to come inside and watch TV shows about their favorite characters enjoying a wintry mix. Bubble Guppies & Team Umizoomi: Into the Snow We Go! is the perfect treat for kindergarteners while they wait for their hot chocolate to cool down and noses to defrost.

“Happy Holidays, Mr. Grumpfish” is a proper Christmas special. Deep under the sea the Bubble Guppies are excited about the holidays approaching. But amongst their cheer and songs, there’s one person in the neighborhood unmoved. Mr. Grumpfish doesn’t seem to care. This leads to the Bubble Guppies doing their best to bring holiday cheer to him. There’s a lot of counting involved in the process to make it a touch educational along with the seasonal message. The two Team Umizoomi episodes are winter related, but not really holiday specials. “A Sledding Day” has Geo, Milly and Bot tracking down a lost sled for a kid. They have to get it before night fall or he’ll be in trouble. There’s lots of icy action as they zip around town. “City of Lost Penguins” brings back the notorious Troublemakers. They really cause trouble when release 50 baby penguins from the zoo. This is a high level episode since it teaches kids to count up to 50. But it shouldn’t overwhelm their minds since it’s counting cute penguins.

Here’s Josie’s assaulting opinion on Bubble Guppies & Team Umizoomi: Into the Snow We Go!:

The video is 1.33:1 full frame. The transfers look fine for an animated kids show. The audio is Dolby Digital Stereo. You can make out all the counting and singing moments with extreme clarity. The episodes are Closed Captioned.

No bonus features.

Bubble Guppies & Team Umizoomi: Into the Snow We Go! is a fine warm up for when your small kids return home after winter fun.
