American Hustle, Gravity Lead 86th Annual Oscar Nominations

News, Top Story

The 85th Academy Awards® will air live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013.

Today was the big day where some in Hollywood were waiting for a phone call letting them know that they had just been nominated for an Academy Award. Regardless where they came from (agents, members of the AMPAS, et al.), the pictures with the most to gain aren’t the ones that have already been given tons of critical praise or platitudes, but the smaller titles that may have squeaked in with a nomination. No real surprises save a few here and there (especially if looking at the bigger categories like Picture or Supporting Actor), but at the end of the day this is Hollywood’s Super Bowl, though calling it a “Homecoming Dance” isn’t a stretch either.
