10 Thoughts On… Bitten – Episode 2

10 Thoughts, Reviews, Top Story

1. I am enjoying the serialized storytelling of Bitten. While a case can be made for the show featuring each episode as a standalone, the serialized nature of being drawn into each episode makes the series stronger. We want to know the circumstances by which she was Bitten, and if this was an innocent mistake by Clay, a nefarious plan to keep her close to him or an active decision by our heroine to embrace the werewolf culture.

2. It appears that Bitten has also taken a page from The CW’s Arrow and will be using flashbacks as a plot device. I loved the way that Elena’s return to Stonehaven was handled as it only led to more questions about the circumstances under which she left.

3. I am still confused about the differences between The Pack and The Mutts. The Pack is made up of one policing family of werewolves but are they responsible for saving the human race from The Mutts? And are The Mutts a bunch of individual rogue wolves or are they all receiving orders from someone. I am betting that it is the latter and am hoping that there will be one major villain that Elena and her brothers must combat before the end of the season.

4. So far, I feel like what has been missing from the show is an exploration of the romantic relationships for characters other than Elena. We know that she has a past with Clay and a present with Philip, but what about the others? In classic lore, wolves are known as operating for themselves, so I would like to see if any of them have affiliations to anyone other than themselves and their family.

5. Greg Bryk’s portrayal of Jeremy continues to be one of my favourite aspects of the show. His quiet demeanor and method of leadership are quite powerful and I believe this makes the show much more believable.

6. There is no question that this show lives and dies by Laura Vandervoort and if that is the case, there is a bright future ahead. Out of all the impressive roles she has undertaken and characters she has played, I certainly believe Elena is the one that will define her. The human element she brings to the role is impressive and I consistently tune in just to see what she does next.

7. The cinematography of the program is also something that must be applauded. There is a great use of shadow and light to highlight the disparity between the two worlds. The series is much darker when the wolves are running or searching for an adversary, but much clearer when they are all in human form.

8. On True Blood, when Alcide and his wolves party and feast, it is a lively and reckless atmosphere. It’s clear that Stonehaven would be a great place to throw a party and I am hoping that the writers decide to eventually highlight why wolves are so cool instead of simply painting them as a protective family.

9. Are wolves cooler than vampires?

10. Can’t wait for episode 3!
