DVD Review: Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Ice Skating Spectacular!

DVD Reviews, Reviews

The Winter Olympics are just around the corner so ice skating will once more dominate the TV. Some people enjoy ducking the rink for a chance to enjoy the experience in nature. There’s such freedom while smoothly scooting around a frozen pond. Naturally it’s time for Dora the Explorer to enjoy lacing up the blades with Boots the Monkey and her animal friends on Dora’s Ice Skating Spectacular! Little does she know that the Ice Witch is eager to ruin the day. How? By stealing all the ice skates. It’s up to Dora to once more complete a series of tasks with the help of viewers. Can she save the wintertime fun? There’s also two additional episodes on the DVD. “Catch That Shape Train” is what happens when imagination goes off the rails. Dora makes a shape train using stickers from Boots’ books. The train takes off before they install a steering wheel. Dora and Boots need to solve problems to avoid a massive trainwreck. “Dora and Perrito to the Rescue” puts Boots in the river. It’s up to his best friends to keep him from getting dragged into bigger dangers. The three episodes do their best to get kids used to shapes, numbers and problem solving. Here’s my daughter’s take on the DVD:

The video is 1.78:1 anamorphic for all three episodes. The transfers are sharp. You get sense of Dora smoothly working on the ice. The audio is Dolby Digital Stereo. The audio is extra clear so there’s no sound when Boots expects your kids to give an answer. The episodes are Closed Captioned.

No bonus features.

Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Ice Skating Spectacular! is a warm educational experience featuring winter fun. Still not sure why my daughter liked the Ice Witch better than Dora.

Nickelodeon and Paramount present Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Ice Skating Spectacular! Starring: Dora, Boots and Bennie. Rated: G. Boxset Contents. 3 Episodes on 1 DVD. Released: November 5, 2013.
