Goblin Nation begins with Superior Spider-Man #27 as teased in the issue’s free preview. However, the big subplot in the book stems from the spoilers to Superior Spider-Man #25 and Superior Spider-Man #26 that set up the Peter Parker’s return as the Amazing Spider-Man.
This storyline is the culmination of a the December 2012 shock that writer Dan Slott gave comicdom a having dying Doctor Octopus take over the body of Spider-Man. Doc Ock may actually be enjoying playing the superior hero and Superior Spider-Man #27 has some interesting reveals in that regard.
Now, I’m not a huge fan of the fake #1 emblazoned on this book’s 27th issue nor the “.NOW” appended to its actual numbering; Marvel has to end this branding misstep and avoid continuing toi detract and distract from the actual stories that should be paramount.
SPOILERS follow for Superior Spider-Man #27.NOW.
Cool covers, but no Avengers in the title this week.
Peter Parker’s journey continues this week in the mindscape. How will he gain control of his mind and body from Doctor Octopus?
However, unlike the last two issues, the really intriguing part this issue is not Pater Parker’s journey back to his April 2014 debuting Amazing Spider-Man series, but who returns in Goblin Nation and causes problems for… Doc Ock, literally.
Norman Osborn’s Green Goblin returns for Goblin Nation and he knows Doctor Octopus’ Superior Spider-Man secret! OMG, didn’t see that coming. Well played, Slott!
The Green Goblin actually tries to recruit the Superior Spider-Man, who believes he has outplayed Norman Osborn.
However, it looks like the Green Goblin is one step ahead of Doctor Octopus / Superior Spider-man. That cliffhanger is a doozy!
Thanks for reading. All feedback welcome! :)
