10 Thoughts On… Bitten – Episode 6

10 Thoughts, Reviews, Top Story

1. While there is no denying the fact that Bitten is and always will be Elena’s story, it’s clear that Jeremy has emerged as the male star of the program. Greg Bryk’s portrayal of the Pack’s alpha wolf consistently gets better each week and this week was no different as Episode 6 finally showed a new side of the Stonehaven leader. It was refreshing to see Jeremy unequivocally accept a mutt’s challenge and the scene was quite effective in highlighting the differences between Jeremy and Clay’s method of dealing with adversaries. While Clay seems to enjoy attacking first (and dealing with the consequences later), Jeremy always considers what the best move is first before deciding whether a show of force is necessary.

2. The relationship between Jeremy and Clay reminds me of the one that was shared between Jax and Clay (ironic huh?) on Sons of Anarchy. On Sons of Anarchy, Jax eventually took over the presidency of SAMCRO and I believe this is what will happen on Bitten as well. Without having read the books, I believe that the show is grooming Clay to eventually take over as the Pack’s alpha and while I hope that this isn’t the case, it’s almost certainly what I believe will happen in the show’s second season.

3. While I know that the writers are using Phillip’s family to establish Elena’s life in Toronto, I don’t believe its necessary. The storyline where Elena struggles to get along with her perspective mother-in-law isn’t necessary as I believe that the chemistry she shares with Phillip is enough to establish why she always wants to be with him in Toronto.

4. There is absolutely no doubt that the show is heading toward an epic battle between the Mutts and the Pack to decide who gets to run the wolf population. I am sure that the Danvers family will suffer some casualties when this war happens, and my only hope is that Jeremy won’t be the one who is sacrificed as that is my primary fear.

5. The cinematography of the scene where Clay calls Elena with a bloody hand and begs her to come home was brilliantly creepy.

6. I know I say this every week, but my favourite part of the show is the minimal use of CGI. When I first heard about the premise behind Bitten being turned into a television program, I was absolutely positive that bad CGI would follow. In tonight’s episode, no one turned into a wolf and despite the lack of ‘turns’ the episode was still one of the strongest thus far. What makes this especially great is that now when Elena and company do turn into wolves in later episodes, it will have a much stronger impact as we haven’t seen a change in awhile.

7. While I don’t know much about female werewolves (or male werewolves for that matter), I think it is safe to assume that they like a lot of food and a lot of sex.

8. Does Daniel Santos remind anyone of the twin killers from The Following? He’s like the third brother, isn’t he?

9. I seriously couldn’t see anyone else except Laura Vandervoort in the role of Elena. The role fits her like a glove and she is at her best when she flips a switch and goes into beast mode. The magic happened once when she attacked the guy who tried to pick her up a couple of weeks ago and we got to see it again tonight when Daniel tried to threaten her into forming an alliance. Spectacular.

10. Greg Bryk stole the show last week when he shared that spectacular scene with Laura Vandervoort and he was the star again tonight.
