10 Thoughts On… Bitten – Episode 7

10 Thoughts, Reviews, Top Story

1. What Bitten giveth, Bitten can taketh away. After establishing how strong he was in his first physical confrontation last week, this week Jeremy showed that he is still human (and wolf) by almost succumbing to his ambush by the Mutts. Given that the Pack has lost two of its members already, I was actually quite happy that the writers teased that this could be the end of Jeremy. Why? Because it is a classic bait-and-switch. There is no way the Pack can lose their leader as then they would be down to only four members. So for Jeremy fans, I wouldn’t worry. This is actually a good thing. It means he is facing death now instead of the finale, which in TV-terms is actually a good thing.

2. I promised myself that I wouldn’t make this week’s article Greg Bryk-centric, but I can’t help myself. The actor has really infused life into the character and judging from all of the social media comments that I was reading as the episode was on, it’s clear I am not the only one who feels this way. While I am quite confident that Bitten will return for a sophomore season, it better bring Bryk back with it.

3. I did not see Antonio’s death coming prior to this episode. The thing is that in most shows, writers try not to blindside you with a major death (with House of Cards being the most profound exception to this rule). When the episode started with Nick saying that he could never be the “fixer” that his father is, it certainly was a blatant foreshadow that he would soon have to be.

4. Can we PLEASE talk about Sylvie? Wow. What an entrance. Phillip’s ex-girlfriend is ridiculously good looking and I guess we now know that he definitely has a thing for blondes (and who can blame him?) Natalie Lisinska has also appeared on Orphan Black and she absolutely made a splash in her first episode. Bitten was sorely in need of another female character and unfortunately Rachel and Phillip’s sister weren’t cutting it for me. I am hoping that Sylvie sticks around for a long time. Wow. What a stunner. Did she remind anyone else of Felicity Smoak / Emily Bett Rickards from Arrow?

5. Elena now seems firmly entrenched in her life at Stonehaven, and I can’t wait to see what she thinks about Phillip making a vodka commercial that exploits her family. With that said, it’s clear that the Danvers clan desperately needs some more muscle. That’s why my new theory is that Elena will bite Phillip. That way she won’t have to choose between her current lover and her former flame (although wouldn’t that mean that would turn Phillip into Clay’s brother? Yuck). Can someone educate me about wolf-to-wolf ancestry?

6. Laura Vandervoort was amazing as always. Sorry Laura, if you are reading this… that’s really all I can say this week. I enjoyed your performance as I always do.

7. When people ask me about why I love Bitten so much, I usually respond by saying that I have a deep appreciation for layered characters. There are so many on this show. Elena, Clay, Phillip, Jeremy, Daniel… the list goes on and on. What I am starting to also find, however, is that the episodes are layered as well. Just when you think that the show is a comedy, it turns into a drama. When you label it as serious, it turns into a mystery. When you think you have solved that mystery, it turns into an action show. You never know what each episode will bring on a week-to-week basis and it is for that reason that it has completely captured my attention and taken over my Saturday night (although let’s be real, I’d probably be staying in on Saturday anyway).

8. I don’t like Logan. Sorry. His loyalty should be to the Pack and not his new kid. I am sure that is an unpopular opinion but if my leader called me and told me that a family member had died and that he was injured, I would immurtzdiately be on my way to Bear Valley.

9. Eve Harlow made her debut as Amber in this week’s episode. I am going to refrain from calling her character the “Mutt S—.” It’s clear she really wants to be turned into a Wolf and now that her boyfriend has been captured, it will be interesting to see if she asks Marston or Daniel to turn her. Something tells me that she isn’t as strong as Elena and wouldn’t be able to survive the change.

10. I would like to guest star on Bitten. Mutt. Murtz. Hmm.
