Murtz On The Scene: Exclusive Interview With Big Brother Canada 2‘s Arlie Shaban

Interviews, Top Story

Touted by many as the heavy favourite to win Big Brother Canada 2, Arlie Shaban’s game disintegrated in just a few short days as his Goof Troop partner, Jon Pardy, decided that the former First Five member was too big of a threat to leave in the game. After the decision was made, Jon executed his plan to perfection, winning the veto and using it on Rachelle to backdoor Shaban. Despite Allison White using her secret veto on Sabrina and Jon nominated Adel in her stead, the target never really seemed to leave Arlie and one of the game’s biggest liars was finally caught with his pants on fire. I caught up with Shaban to discuss what went wrong and how he managed to get Neda to kiss his ass (no really, I actually asked him that).

Murtz Jaffer: In your pre-show interviews, you said that you have been preparing to be a Big Brother houseguest for your entire life and that preparing for it was your full-time job. In that respect, how disappointed are you that you are the first jury member and is there anything that you feel you could have done differently?

Arlie Shaban: I’m extremely disappointed that I’m the first jury member but you also have to take in to consideration that I wasn’t playing the game for $100,000. I was playing to be an entertaining player. I was doing this to have fun for the fans but I’m extremely disappointed, I expected to go much further in the game. My whole strategy was go in and lay low for awhile. I got most of my strategy out of the way but most of my not winning didn’t happen because I didn’t take slop too seriously.

MJ: In hindsight, do you regret turning on the First Five? I believe it was your thirst for popularity and to associate yourself with Adel after he won the Buzzworthy contest that ultimately cost you as Kenny, Andrew and Sabrina probably wouldn’t have turned.

AS: I don’t regret turning on the First Five. I had plotted to do that decision for a long time very early on in the game. They were doing things that would have been detrimental to my game and I felt like the sloppy seconds side of the house would run through that side. The first five was very weak in competitions, Kenny froze in important timing questions, Sabrina couldn’t compete at anything, Sarah wasn’t that strong mentally and emotionally she was hurting my game, so I knew that the sloppy seconds side was a much stronger side of the house…I just didn’t expect them to turn on me as quickly as they did.

MJ: How on earth did you get Neda to kiss your ass? That’s literally what we saw on last night’s episode.

AS: The way that came about was that Jon and Neda had a bet one day and it was that whoever was mean to each other out of the two of them, would have to kiss my ass. I don’t know how my ass came about. At first it was going to be one of them had to put their foot in a toilet bowl but Neda was too freaked out by germs and stuff but she was completely fine with kissing my ass.
