It is a good time to a fan of the Flash and time travel at DC Comics.
As we noted in the past, the Flash #30 unveiled the DC Comics New 52’s Wally West and the identity of the Future Flash (spoilers here). In turn, The Flash Annual #3 showed a bit more of the first meeting between Barry Allen and Wally West as well what the mission of the Future Flash is and why its critical (spoilers here). We also learned in that latter issue that this Futures Flash is willing to go to any lengths to complete his mission including killing a classic Rogues Gallery member 20 years in the future of the DC Comics New 52. In last month’s Flash #31 (spoilers here) he killed yet another Rogue!
I’m also curious how Wally West becomes Impulse in The Flash title’s contribution to the September 2014 New 52 Futures End 3D cover comic book initiative set five years in the future.
Spoilers and capsule review follow for The Flash #32.
The free preview for the issue revealed who Barry Allen’s next target is; Captain Cold of 12 years in the future!
Delving into the issue, we see a conflicted future Barry Allen be with Captain Cold as he slips into death. However, Barry does speak to Cold about the villain’s time in the Justice League plus explains what his plan is and why.
The Speed Force is decaying and the death of Barry Allen (present day version presumably) will save it and Wally West from pre-mature deaths.
The book ends with modern-day Barry Allen trying to get Wally West out of his shell with… baseball.
I’ve stayed with The Flash book predominantly due to the Future Flash story. I’m intrigued where the creative team will take this. The modern-day befriend-Wally-West subplot seems a bit rushed and forced despite him seemingly being more comfortable around Barry.
Thanks for reading. All feedback welcome.
