Jake Gyllenhaal A Night Owl In Nightcrawler Teaser

News, Trailers

Knowing little of the development of Nightcrawler beforehand, believe me when I tell you I was a little freaked out seeing a gaunt Jake Gyllenhaal in a YouTube video that popped up over the weekend. While no movie title or catchy hastag message is given to offer a clue to the viewer that it was a viral promo for the forthcoming Nightcrawler movie from Dan Gilroy, brother to Tony Gilroy (of Michael Clayton and The Bourne Legacy fame), it served its purpose.

Gyllenhaal’s one-minute spiel as a man in varied locations repeating signature phrases like, “If you want to win the lottery you need to make the money to buy a ticket,” is sublime and looks to be yet another intriguing character of his in a resume that also includes Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac and Prisoners. Not bad for a guy who early in his career played a boy in a plastic bubble not named John Travolta.

This release from Open Road Films will play the Toronto International Film Festival in September before it makes its bow in theaters later in October. With an official teaser trailer we get a better idea of the story. When Gyllenhaal’s character, Louis Bloom, is desperate for work he falls into the world of “nightcrawling” crime reporting where he and others like him do freelance work filming car crashes, fires and murders in the long dark nights of Los Angeles.

Nightcrawler co-stars Rene Russo, Bill Paxton, Riz Ahmed and arrives in theaters on October 17. Also check out this magnificent poster below courtesy of HuffPo.
