Update: UFC Negotiations With Gina Carano Going Well; Deal To Fight Rousey ‘Getting Close’

News, Top Story

There has never really been a doubt that Gina Carano will face Ronda Rousey, the only thing that has been up in the air is when and we might finally have an answer.

While the UFC has been talking to Carano’s camp for some time, MMAFighting.com is reporting that the two sides are closer then they ever have been in order to secure a deal for Carano to join the company.

Citing sources close to the negotiations, MMAFighting.com reports that indicate the talks are “doing a lot better,” than they had previously, characterizing a potential contract deal as “getting close.”

It is expected that Carano would fight Rousey almost immediately after the ink has dried on her UFC deal. The women’s bantamweight title fight is expected to take place before the end of the year. While the prospect of a fight between the pair has always been intriguing, it’s also because there would be the prerequisite controversy to go along with it. Many in the MMA community don’t feel Carano should jump ahead of contenders who are ranked ahead of her, simply because of who she is. The proposed challenger also hasn’t stepped inside an Octagon in five years.
