It hasn’t been a great couple of weeks for Demian Maia.
The welterweight was supposed to meet Mike Pyle last week but was forced to pull out of the fight when he suffered a bone bruise that turned into a staph infection. The same would has now degenerated into a bone infection with put Maia in the hospital last week.
Maia’s manager, Eduardo Alonso, told MMAFighting.com that his client was currently being treated for osteomyelitis, which is a bone infection caused by bacteria.
Maia was released from the hospital on Friday and will be on antibiotics for the next six weeks before a reassessment is made.
