Grey’s Anatomy News: Ellen Pompeo Hints She May Retire From Acting After Grey’s Wraps Up

Ellen Pompeo is okay with just being remembered as Dr. Meredith Grey.

The actress says that she might change gears after ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy wraps up its run and focus on directing and producing instead of acting.

“I definitely don’t have a strong desire to act after Grey’s. I definitely feel myself transitioning. I don’t find acting terribly empowering,” the actress said during a BuzzFeed Brews panel discussion hosted by Kate Arthur.

Pompeo closed a new two-year deal last year to stay on with the show through to Season 12. The actress also signed up for a new ABC series about a Boston cop who becomes a police psychologist after a series injury, but says that she might give it up in order to move behind the camera.

“Acting has been a wonderful opportunity, but I’ve done so much of it for the past 11 years — maybe part of my personality is I feel like I have something to prove sometimes — and with acting, I don’t feel like I have anything to prove anymore, even though I have no awards,” Pompeo said.
