Floyd Mayweather secured another victory to add to his unprecedented legacy last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The fighter used his boxing prowess to outlast challenge Marcos Maidana at bay and handily secured a unanimous victory by decision (116-111, 116-111, 115-112) and extended his unbeaten record to 47-0. The victory resulted in Mayweather retaining both his WBC and WBA welterweight titles.

In their first fight last May, Maidana employed a different strategy where he attacked the champion with everything but the kitchen sink, but Mayweather had clearly learned from his mistakes on Saturday and using lateral dodging to stay away from his attacking challenger.

The more interesting story, however, was when Mayweather was again asked about accepting a challenge from Manny Pacquiao.

“If the Manny Pacquiao fight comes around, let’s make it happen,” Mayweather said to the delight of the crowd.

Pacquiao faces Chris Algieri on Nov. 23 in Macau, and Mayweather said the celebrated boxer would need to win that fight before even considering a superfight that would undoubtedly feature the richest purse in boxing history.

“Pacquiao should focus on the guy in front of him now (Algieri). Once he gets past that, then we’ll see what the future holds,” Mayweather explained.
