Last week, UFC bantamweight champion T.J Dillashaw underwent successful surgery on his left elbow.

Dillashaw suffered from Bursitis after his last title defence against Joe Soto. The nagging pain forced Dillashaw into making the decision to go under the.

“Swollen from elbowing [Joe] Soto,” he wrote via text message to MMAFighting.com. “Drained it multiple times but just kept coming back.”

Bursitis is defined as the swelling and irritation of a bursa, a fluid-filled sac, that acts as a cushion between muscles, tendons, and joints. It often happens close to joints that perform a frequent repetitive motion.

Dillashaw will be shelved for 3-5 weeks and is expected to face Dominick Cruz upon his return.
