Featherweight Division Chaos As Mendes Wants To Fight Lamas And Lamas Wants To Fight McGregor

News, Top Story

The UFC’s most competitive division gets increasingly complicated by the minute.

The next fight features Frankie Edgar taking on Cub Swanson with the winner likely getting the next shot at Jose Aldo. While that much seems clear, what happens after that is where things get murky.

After his first-round win over the surging Dennis Bermudez, Ricardo Lamas has a stranglehold on being the No. 1 contender and other fighters like Chad Mendes are aiming to get to the top of the mountain by knocking Lamas off of it. UFC Tonight reports that Mendes wants to fight Lamas ‘ASAP,’ and while the prospect of the match sounds enticing, it appears Lamas has other ideas.

UFC Tonight is also reporting that the former All-American Division III wrestler is waiting to see who wins the January 18 match between Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver before announcing his next fight. Lamas has said that he thinks McGregor should have to “face a wrestler” before fighting Aldo for the featherweight title.

We shall see who gets the next shot at Aldo, who seems unstoppable at this point.
