High Level Talks Happening To Confirm Superfight Between Manny Pacquiao & Floyd Mayweather, Match Appears Imminent

News

We have been hearing rumors of the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather superfight for years.

Most of the speculation has been steered by Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter… but now there is official confirmation that high-level talks are currently taking place.

“We can confirm that Floyd Mayweather definitely wants the Pacquiao fight,” a Showtime spokesperson wrote to The Times in an email that was also obtained by RingTV.com. “Everyone on our side – Floyd, CBS and Showtime – is advocating for the fight to happen.”

The LA Times is also reporting that CBS Chief Executive Les Moonves is the man responsible for finally bringing the two sides together to discuss the potential of the match as a deal would need to be reached between Showtime and HBO to air it. It would be similar to the set-up for the Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson fight in 2002.

Arum did offer a comment on the match’s probability.

“The guy carrying the ball is Moonves,” said Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum, according to The Times. “He and I have talked on a number of occasions and he has suggested we see if we can reach an understanding. I assume, without knowing for a fact, that he’s talking to the Mayweather camp.”
